The Miko Peled talks attracted a colourful audience and wide press coverage. If you missed I am afraid you missed big time. Many were touched and moved and some shed a tear or two of his personal journey to unravel the politics in Palestine, its people and its stories.
Myths and lies were debunked and he laid bare the hypocrisy and misinformation prevalent in the Zionist controlled western media.
Truly a courageous and brave man to pursue the truth despite being brought up in a dense "Zionist ambience" – his granddad a co-signatory of the Israeli Declaration of Independence on 14 May 1948 and his dad a general in the 1967 war when Israeli invaded and annexed Gaza, West Bank, Golan Heights and Sinai. And his quest for authenticity persisted despite losing his niece to suicide bombings in 1997.
His book the The General's Son was sold out – autographed personally by Miko.

People Who Believe In Justice And Humanity Should Support To Free Palestine, Says Israeli Writer

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- People who believe in justice and humanity should support the fight to free Palestine, said Israeli writer Miko Peled, here, today.

The Jerusalem-born Peled, who openly expressed his support for the Palestinians, said democracy in Palestine was possible if everybody united in expressing their moral stand on the issue.

The author of the book, "The General's Son, The Journey of an Israeli in Palestine", pointed out how the 'people united' approach could change the world's scenario, citing the collapse of apartheid in South Africa.

"If more countries join and unite behind this fight, it can happen. Apartheid in South Africa ended and the people are now free and practising democracy," he told reporters after giving a talk titled "Beyond Zionism - Hope For Peace in Palestine", organised by Viva Palestina Malaysia (VPM).

Peled said it was very important for people to understand that if they supported Israel, indirectly they were supporting a country that was responsible for those missing Palestinians.

"Support for Israel is support for a country that kills Palestine civilians. If you want to continue supporting, that's your choice. But if you think it is wrong, support the Palestine and the idea of democracy," he said.

VPM chairman Datuk Dr Musa Mohd Nordin said the talk was one of the activities of the non-governmental organisation to increase public awareness on the humanitarian crisis in Palestine.

RAISING AWARENESS: Israeli activist calls for boycott, sanctions, divestment policies against Israel
PUTRAJAYA: INTERNATIONAL pressure and global awareness are crucial in stopping the cruel and racist Zionist regime's actions against the Palestinians.

Miko Peled, an Israeli activist and author, said the ultimate way to stop Israelis from terrorising the Palestinians was through education and awareness programmes that would open the minds of individuals.

"Education is important as it helps to educate people worldwide to engage in pressure against Israel and to advocate the BDS (boycott, divestment and international sanctions) movement against the state," he said yesterday.

The BDS is a global movement started in 2005 which works in peaceful ways to create economic and political pressure on Israel in various forms of boycott until the state complies and meets its obligations under international law.

Peled said the terrorist regime in Israel could be stopped if there was enough international pressure.

"We have seen the terrorist regime in South Africa fall, we have also seen tyrants fall in South America, and all over the world. So it is only a question of getting everyone together and to work together, standing behind the idea of freedom and democracy."
Peled, who grew up in a patriotic Zionist family, claimed that the current situation in the state was an apartheid regime that must go and that a one-state solution was closer to bringing peace and democracy among the two nationalities.

His grandfather, Dr Avraham Katsnelson was a Zionist leader and signatory of the Israeli Declaration of Independence, while his father, Mattityahu Peled was a young officer in the war of 1948 and a general in the 1967 war when Israel conquered the West Bank, Gaza, Golan Heights and the Sinai.

Peled, who felt that the situation within the state of Israel would not change until they were hit with the harsh reality, quoted the abolishment of apartheid in South Africa in 1990, which created a transformation in the country itself.
"Political transformation can create a democracy, like how apartheid fell; Zionism will have to fall as well.
"The oppression cannot go on, and it is unsustainable as the country is small and the best method is for both sides is to see through this transformation.
"However, it can only happen as a result of pressure from the outside, with more global awareness movements and campaigns," Peled added.
He also believed that both Israel and Palestine were on the road to attaining peace and that it would happen through democracy.
"I am confident peace will happen where we can see a free and democratic picture where the Israelis and Palestinians can work together and live in democracy as equals."

Earlier, Peled gave a talk on a book that he wrote, The General's Son: Journey of an Israeli in Palestine. Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Perdana Global Peace Foundation members were among those present. Dr Mahathir is the founder and president of the foundation.

The book, which chronicles his personal journey from being a Zionist to an outspoken advocate of peace and a single-state solution in Israel and Palestine, also examines Zionism and what happens before and after it.
